SAT® Preparation
Our SAT® Prep courses are designed to give students a strong foundation in SAT® knowledge in addition to bolstering confidence, improving study skills, and strengthening academic abilities. We hope that students will excel not only on the SAT®, but also in achieving academic success.
We offer an initial assessment test that identifies each student's specific needs so that a personalized curriculum can be developed. This allows students to effectively accelerate their learning and reach their goals.
Most students who attend our classes during the school year are enrolled in a set of two or three interrelated classes (e.g., Verbal and Math). Weekly practice tests are also administered to monitor growth and support areas of weakness. The subject-area classes outlined below will help students to dramatically improve scores and enhance their school grades.
VerbalThis course emphasizes a solid foundation for students' critical reading skills. More than fifty percent of the verbal SAT® test questions are comprised of reading comprehension passages. In the class students will learn to analyze a wide variety of reading passages in addition to learning how to critically analyze the author’s opinion, identifying assumptions, and confidently reaching conclusions.

WritingThe Alpha writing course emphasizes the need to learn proper grammar and the proper high school-level writing. This is achieved through direct lessons, error identification, sentence/paragraph improvement exercises, as well as utilization of the Alpha "power essay" writing model.
|
MathematicsFocused on the principles of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, this course familiarizes students with the most frequent SAT® math questions and effective methods to solve them. Developing accuracy and speed in test-taking is a central focus.

Practice TestsEvery week students are required to take a six-sectioned complete SAT® test. Most of the practice tests are actual “retired” SAT® tests that were administered by the College Board. In addition, students will be taking tests designed by Alpha in order to specifically reinforce any subject weaknesses. All the practice tests are strictly timed in order to simulate the actual test given by the College Board.
